It was a chilly November morning when we boarded Chicago’s First Lady. Being from Florida the kids were bundled up and we immediately grabbed a table downstairs in the warm indoor seating area and treated the kids to some hot chocolate.
Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady Cruises is named one of the top 10 tours in the United States by TripAdvisor reviewers, Chicago’s First Lady Cruises and the Chicago Architecture Foundation offer locals and visitors breathtaking panoramic views of Chicago’s riverfront architecture with unmatched cruise commentary led by CAF-certified volunteer docents. The volunteer docent that gave our tour was amazing. He was incredibly knowledgable and the kids loved off of his random facts.
The cruise lasted about 90 minutes. You travel along all three branches of the Chicago River and learn about more than 50 significant buildings along the cruise route. Although it was cold the day we toured, it was very clear and the photo opportunities were amazing.
Cruises run from April through November and leave from Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive set in the beautiful Riverside Gardens along the vibrant Chicago Riverwalk. The cruises can be fun for kids of all ages, but our children, ages 8 & 11, were really old enough to appreciate the information about the unique architecture found in Chicago.
