Tubing Smoky Mountains with River Rat

August 14, 2018

During our trip to Smoky Mountain National Park it was hot. The evenings cooled off, but the days were very warm and left us longing for a way to keep cool. We decided to do a little tubing and it made for an amazing day on the river with the kids.

We picked River Rat for no other reason than we had driven past them on our way to the store the day before. We were so happy with our experience tubing with them I felt compelled to write a review, even though this is 100% not a sponsored post, we paid full price for our tubing adventure.

River Rat Tubing takes all the guesswork out of your tubing adventure. This is especially important if you’re looking to tube with kids. Not only do they provide all the necessary equipment (tube, life jacket for kids and tether to keep your tubes together) but they have a river launch right at their store site and will pick you up when you get to the end of your float.

It took us about an hour to float down the river and the River Rat shuttle bus was waiting for us when we ended our float. The best part about the experience, you can go as many time as you want all day long! River Rat gives you a wristband for the day and you have unlimited access to the river for the day you paid.

Not only was River Rat user friendly, but it was an inexpensive day for our family. All day tubing passes are just $15 for adults and $12 for kids, and you can save $2 by buying your tickets online. We tubed multiple times for the one low price. My advice would be to go early, right when they open and then break for lunch and hit the river again. I can’t recommend River Rat enough. It was a fun day for the whole family!

  1. How deep does this water get? Do you ever really need to get out of your tube? I am not a swimmer but I would love to do this with my family. We also have a three year old.

    1. It gets a little deep in some places but they have life jackets for the kids and you could wear one too if you felt more comfortable.

  2. Did you guys do the upper or lower section? I read where one was more adventurous.

    1. We tubed from the Main Outpost, which I think is considered the lower portion. It’s a little slower than the upper outpost.
